COLOUR OF THE SUNRISE AND SUNSET

Typically, all the Photographers wish to snap a nature view that too mostly the sunrise and sunset due to its pleasing color. Also many of them loves nature and seeing the sunrise near Kanyakumari is something out of the ordinary. So I will explain why the color of the sun is red during sunrise and sunset and also provide the answer for blue color of the sky.Take a glimpse of the answer.

RAYLEIGH SCATTERING-The Intensity of light scattered is inversely proportional to the Fourth power of the wavelength of light.

Due to Rayleigh Scattering(Elastic Scattering) light from the sun bounce off many tiny particles in the atmosphere and scatter these particles in different directions.Sunlight consists of all colors from red to violet. As the blue light is of short wavelength , it is scattered more effectively than all colors and thus making the sky to appear blue to us.

During Sunrise and Sunset, the sun is low on the horizon, the light rays must pass through more of the atmosphere and thus bouncing off more particles than at all other day. This shows that more blue light gets scattered away before the light reaches your eyes.Other colors such as red, orange, yellow can pass through the atmosphere without getting scattered and the color of the Sun appears Red during the Dawn and Dusk of the day.
